some kind of silicate or mica like material mixed in, hence the sheen. One odd feature of the
material is it absorbs old fashioned Radar emissions” he added. T’luha looked surprised then puzzled
before smiling.
“Has anyone tried an old fashioned Magnetic Resonance scan?” she asked. Tom shook his head then
realised where she was heading with that line of thought.
“There’s a modern version of those old medical units in the Med Bay. Want to give it a try” he said
grinning like a schoolboy with mischief in mind. T’luha grabbed his hand and practically dragged him
to the elevator and down to the lower deck.
In the Mess hall; Hubris and Jennifer were finished eating their Pancakes and were sipping
the last of their Mint Teas. Jennifer’s coms unit buzzed and she answered it
“Yes; what is it Lucy?” she said to Lucy Brennan her assistant
“Ma’am; we’ve got the results of the latest deep scans from She’brakda, I think you and Dr Hubris
should take a look at them now. There’s something strange showing up” the young lab assistant
replied
“Very well; we’re on our way!” Jennifer responded and gave a puzzled look to Hubris who just
shrugged his shoulders and they got up to return to the Lab. Hubris put the crystal Michael had given
him in a personal player and popped on a headset and listened to the sounds as they walked back to
the Elevator. He stopped abruptly and grabbed Jennifer’s arm.
“Forgive me Jennifer; but I have just had an epiphany. I’ll meet you later I need to check out some
notes in my quarters” He announced and with that he dashed off leaving a puzzled Jennifer to go
back to the Lab alone.
Doc Stenerton was highly amused by Tom and T’luha’s request and joked “Why don’t you
have a good old fashioned Ultrasound scan while you’re at it?” and he laughed.
“We might just too!” T’luha responded “Relax; I was being sarcastic. But seriously It wouldn’t hurt to
be thorough!” she added. Stenerton frowned then guffawed loudly
“I like her Tom, and she’s probably right. I saw you struggling to get the end of that off while you
walked in” he said to Tom who looked abashed.
“I…” he strained again to try and budge the knurled section “Oh; it’s no use. It won’t budge. Here
Doc do your worst.” And he handed Stenerton the cylinder.
“Ordinarily if you’d asked to try this with the older units you would risk causing irreparable damage
to the MR unit; possible even caused an explosion. These modern units work with lower field
strengths and a higher resonance frequency; so they are far safer. Oh well; here goes.” He said
putting the cylinder in the chamber and turning on the scanner. They all watched the sections build
up on the holographic display.
“The resolution is very good Doc; The inner workings seem to be similar to Krall tech, but far more
compact. See those sections there T’luha; embedded Nano scale crystal circuitry. Even the wave and
plasma guides are on a microscopic scale.” Tom said excitedly.
“We have to find a way to get this apart” T’luha said. When the machine had completed the process
Doc took the cylinder out of the MR unit.
