what?” she said “Keep me informed of anything else you find out… And try not to wreck the place,
you’re like a bunch of school kids” she admonished, and headed to an elevator to go to the Lab.
Krysta walked into a scene of chaos, a dazzling array of quickly flashing images and a
cacophony of sound assaulted her senses.
“No Michael, it’s slipped out of sync again. Try changing the cadence step rate and see what that
does!” Hubris shouted over the din. The equipment fell into silence and the flashing display flickered
off. Jennifer offered Krysta a set of ear muffs; she took them and put them on. After making the
adjustments Michael fired up the strange collaboration of equipment again. This time it started to
show symbols and glyphs slowly and replayed a series of sounds and tones to match. However it
didn’t stay that way for long and the chaotic clamour started again. Michael shut it down at a signal
from Hubris. “Leave it there for now I think we need a break to collect our wits”. Michael locked off
the control settings made a note of them in the log and went back to his other duties.
“Sorry about that Captain, Hubris thinks he’s onto something with the Kryst language” he said as he
passed Krysta. She took off her earmuffs and gave Hubris a stern look.
“That’s twice today! First I’m physically assaulted by a piece of Kryst tech and now my sight and
hearing by… whatever that contraption is. Has the entire team lost its senses?” she demanded
“I apologise for all that chaos, but I’ve had an epiphany regarding the Kryst language” Hubris said
and went on to explain what he’d come up with in more detail. He explained about the symbols and
the sounds, the intonation and cadence correlations. “… The only problem I’m having is getting the
synchronisation correct. We just can’t seem to get the Cadence and other increment steps right, we
are missing something” he concluded. Krysta had listened to this in complete silence. Nodding
occasionally where she understood the principle that Hubris was trying to put over. She rubbed her
chin and went over to the internal coms unit. She dialled up a connection to the Med Bay.
“Doc; could you send a copy of that ECG trace to Hubris’ Lab for me” she closed the connection
before Stenerton could interrupt. A console printer spat out a copy of the ECG trace. She handed it
to Hubris. “Try using that sequence and see what happens. It looks like it’s a commonly used base
code by the Kryst” she said without explaining why. Hubris looked at the trace and his eyes widened.
“I had suggested a break; so could I treat you to something in the Mess” he asked Krysta then he
said “Jennifer take a look at this and see if you get what I’m thinking” and he handed her the copy of
the ECG trace. She took it from him and studied the sequence. Suddenly it dawned on her and she
almost shouted her words
“It’s almost like the Fibonacci series! This could be just the sequence we need! Dibs on the Pancakes
and Syrup!” she whooped.
“Pancakes and Syrup?” Krysta repeated puzzled. Hubris explained about Comfort Food “Make mine
a Jekkta instead of Mint Tea and you’re on!” she said and the three of them headed for the Mess
Hall.
Arrival at P’rada system
The Veklaar was on approach to the region where the system of She’brakda resided. T’luha
had used her knowledge of Field, Gravimetrics and Space Fold Theory to find a solution to avoid the
worst of the effects of the Gravity Occlusion. A lot depended on the precise timing of shield
harmonic shifts. With this in mind Trok had linked directly with the ships Hive as their combined
reactions could make the fine adjustments quickly enough. The vessels trajectory called for a tight
parabola between the Occlusion and a debris field at a speed
