“Thanks Rupert. It looks like I’m going to be unavailable for a while, so you’re in charge.” She said.
She hated handing control to anyone, but Lestrange was a very important dignitary and as such
demanded all of her attention.
On board the Jeramiah; Hubert was going over the Achenazi archive reports from early in
their people’s settlement of Mira and other nearby star systems. These Elders or Greys seemed to
correspond to a race encountered living on a moon in the Eriade System. That moon, called locally as
Ferisa, had an atmosphere that was predominantly Methane and Nitrous Oxide. These species could
be related, though the races mentioned in the Achenazi archive were Blue skinned and about six feet
tall, green skinned and four feet high. He wanted to see one of these Greys for himself …
Chapter 2
Heading home?
Permission came quickly after the news Fenton brought to the Council. Meorr could go and
meet her relative and they needed no more answers from her. Fenton arranged for them both to
travel out to the Venarr System on a Buraxin Trade vessel the H’Gru’ Fen. Its captain was an old
friend of Fenton’s and only too willing to take them having a need to go there with trade items from
one of the other rim worlds.
“We’re taking some spices and agricultural machinery Fenton my old effendi” Jicklac Parr told them
as they boarded. “You’re Lemurr aren’t you Meorr. I’ve not had many dealings with your kind, but
those I’ve had were most useful!” he added
“Thank you Jicklac; the last Buraxin Trader I encountered had been captured by The Elders, whom
I’ve since been told are called The Greys, he was subjected to mind control and enslaved by them. I
must add that the control was not perfect and he rebelled so much the Greys wiped their encounter
from his mind and let him go. I believe his name was Yassmar Oleg” she replied.
“Ah! Yassmar. Poor fellow, he turned up out-of-the-blue at a seech on one of our outer colonies. We
couldn’t make head or tail of him; he kept breaking into a language we’d never heard. He seemed
completely mad. Now, from what you’ve just said, I see why. Poor soul, I’ll let our Council know. He’s
still around. The Greys must have given him some form of longevity treatment that means he never
seems to age.” commented Jicklac and had one of the coms crew send a message. “Now please; let
me show you to your quarters. Ma’am, yours is this way. Fenton I’ve put you in with Ger’hun. You
remember our Untharan doctor from your trip to Howrah Lee colony out by the former Gantrax
outpost. You two will probably have a lot of catching up to do no doubt” he added laughing.
Fenton remembered only too well how he and the “The good Doctor” met. He was playing
Jakkra Stones with one of the natives and Fenton needed treatment for a burn he’d received helping
a Biologist collect plant samples. That particular specimen exuded a sap that was highly acidic and it
rotted through his gloves. Ger’hun was amiable enough, but had not had a great deal of contact with
Humans, and made the mistake of thinking Fenton was a female at first. When the embarrassment
was over, he and the doctor got on well. Fenton found the quarters spacious enough, and put his
things in a locker. He then went in search of the ships Med Deck to see his old friend.
Jicklac took Meorr to a separate part of the ship, used for when the crew had family
travelling with them. He explained that, as he was not taking his wife and daughter with him, he was
letting her use his daughter’s quarters. Seeing Meorr settled, he was heading back to the Bridge
when Meorr stopped him.
