component of the “Photosynthesis” process. The Crystals replace the Chloroplasts in our known
species of plant life. Apart from that the rest of the process is virtually the same” Leeson said and
stopped realising he was droning on about something that the others were not quite interested in.
“I have to admit; the Eloi are a bit of an enigma. I can’t get over how incredibly advanced they seem
most of the time, then extremely dumb, particularly where it comes to picking up on other races
emotions” Myra said out loud after their hosts had left. “It’s like a sort of schizophrenia. Oh; and
Leeson, I think you may be onto something with that plant. The Kabrut; they keep it well away from
others, it’s like they’re addicted to it. But I did an analysis. Apart from one or two odd minerals, it is
basically a form of carbohydrate. I did notice that they remove part of the plant before shredding
the rest... I wonder?” she added then left.

The Eloi prepared the Endeavour for its flight to Hylon. The Eloi were reticent about the
other worlds in the system; just warning the crew that the planets were created to match life forms
that were “differently” based. They were insistent that the Endeavours crew avoid contact until the
Eloi had the chance to prepare their occupants for any future encounter. Not that they thought that
the crew would be harmed, just that the “tenants” guarded their right to privacy fastidiously.
Normally that would have rung alarm bells; but the crew were willing to give the Eloi the benefit of
the doubt. After all; the Eloi had not shown any animosity or distrust on their part. It was as if they
truly were apologetic of their ancestors…

Chapter 6
                                                   Second Chances

Arthur was still getting used to being a multi billionaire. Mark had been true to his word and
he and his partners had recovered Arthur’s legacy. He had even helped to set up a second franchise
in Meldar Province on Herebron; a world in the Genaro sector of The Sonoran Trust. When Arthur
learned about the former Dark Empire and Kelgar; he was drawn to the similarity of the social order
to the Chicago of the late thirties early forties that he had dreamed of being part of. Granted that
had been a romanticised view; but Kelgar, and Hellion City were so close in comparison he decided
then and there that he wanted to live there. He had only the faintest hope now of ever seeing his
beloved Helen again. Even if she had survived the transition to life on Hylon; so much time had
passed her descendants, if she had any, would barely know him. So he decided that the life of a
Playboy “Gangster” would suit him better. His skills as a Graphic Artist also translated to the
Holographic Design industry. During the process of his “estates” reclamation; he had discovered
some of his Commercial studies had become design classics, and his works demanded huge sums in
auctions. In short Arthur was so wealthy he just didn’t know what to do. One thing that had tipped
him to the path he intended to follow had been Mark’s life story. The young man had been at a loss
while waiting for yet another deposition in connection to Arthur’s legacy; he’d rambled into the
subject. Learning how he’d been part of the criminal Boys Cartel at one point, how a wealthy “client”
had funded his education in the Law, struck a chord with Arthur. He too had started life in humble
beginnings; he too had been “spotted” by a wealthy sponsor. She had even “adopted” him as her
son at one point. Yes; he thought, this is going to work.

What Arthur didn’t know; but would learn once his new life was established, would be that
Helen did indeed survive. However; she had not become part of the “Great Experiment” that was
Hylon. Instead; after the initial examinations were done and she had been “placed”, she decided
that, knowing Arthur was with another group, she wanted to be placed in stasis until such time,
however long that took, she could be reunited with Arthur. That time was fast approaching…

… Lance and Sandra were called into a vault on the lower level. Lance was pleased that
Arthur had settled; but that didn’t mean they could relax. Ron Land was in there with a member of
the Military.
“Ah; you two meet Major Win Stanley; Patrol Intelligence Service. I called him in when we came
across the files in this room. There’s something about the content that is so odd; only a Military
mind could possibly shed some light on them” Ron said.
