Terraformers.” She said as she and Galena walked into her office. “I’m glad they placed you in charge
of the project, I relate to females better than males.” She added.
“My solitary role is going to be temporary as, supposedly, there will be a Xeno-biologist arriving to
joining me in the role. It’s put a few noses out of joint, but apparently that’s something I’m readily
capable of!” she laughed “I still have a reputation of being “abrasive”. That also probably goes a long
way to explaining why I have difficulty in having relationships. Speaking of which, the latest work
done on your two species genomes has thrown up some interesting possibilities. There are some
pairs in the “Code” and reproduction sequences that look similar to Flutvarn and two other
amphibian races. It looks as if interspecies mating could be possible. Though the genetic switches in
the Ulahri would need to be triggered to allow for sexual reproduction” Galena revealed
“Oh; that’s going to be a shock to their systems. The psychological barriers would be the first real
hurdle, they have become so dependent on cloning and artificial maturation, it’s going to take a
massive shift of paradigm to get them to accept that idea. Even you have to admit they are the very
essence of stubborn” and K’ru made a trilling sound.
“Yes; you’re probably right. Now then, down to other matters. I’ve seen you looking at Rupert in an
admiring way, you’re not thinking of him as a possible mate?” Galena chuckled
“Only as an experiment, I doubt our two species would be compatible, but it would be fun trying!”
And she trilled again. Rupert walked in and they both laughed, leaving Rupert looking puzzled.
The Power of the Gods
With Humerus away, and the Flutvarn busy with the strange device, Alicia decided to delve
deeper into the Haraxans and their so called “World Builders”. After only an hour or so she had
records of contacts and legends from over thirty systems. In each case the race was referred to as
the “World Builders” or the World Makers”. Other races had simply referred to them as Gods or Sky
Spirits, Makers of the World. It was becoming apparent that these “World Builders” were a very
ancient race indeed, and when she widened her search, their presence was noted in the same galaxy
that the Unat and Osir came from. What was infuriating was the so called “Manual” which was in a
rare dialect of Hagunenon. It read more like an extract from the Egyptian Book of the Dead than a
technical manual and had probably been translated by some ancient scribe, in an attempt to convey
what the “Gods” meant. They did accidentally find out how to trigger a huge EMP burst that almost
fried the local network. In the meantime; she had instigated an acceleration of the Ocean forming
process by bombarding the surface with huge ice blocks taken from Saturn’s Rings. This had
developed into a target practice game among the Techs. At the current rate of precise impacts they
should have very deep, well developed Oceans and inland seas within a matter of weeks. The
planets rotation would have to be slowed soon and the axis tilt returned. This was always a tricky
moment.
“Shuttle from Orbiter Farrago on approach ma’am” a comms officer said over her office intercom.
“Good, send the crew to the mess and have Captain Lucas report to me.” She replied
Henri Lucas had been a new addition to the teams. He was an accomplished coastline designer. The
plans for the world below included some very sophisticated inlets and lagoons. There was also the
Hallaran Archipelago to sort out. It would soon be time to finalise these plans and implement the
sculpturing. If the alien device could be made to work, this process would be greatly speeded up.
Henri walked into her office about twenty minutes later.
“Ah; Henri, did your survey show any major anomalies we need to worry about?” she asked as he
entered
“The northern pole land mass has a large fault line running through it, but we’d already had
indicators for that happening. There is a strange thickening of the crust on one of the volcanoes on
