The Chronicles of the Tribe Series Two

Chronicle 7 – From Dark to Light

Chapter 1

                                           Death leaves its mark

Morden Vasilly loomed over the remains of Jaden Whelks, a local gangster, with a
sadistic grin on his twisted face. Two others, his accomplices and siblings, Marven and
Mundey, were keeping lookout. He reached down and wiped
the thin blade of the stiletto on the victim’s sleeve. Leaving the
calling card of a White Mimosa flower in Jaden’s breast pocket
he rose up and joined his brothers. It was a little before noon
on Kelgar, a world in the Luxaan territory of The Sonoran Trust. “Time for lunch, murder
always makes me hungry” he said and laughed, His brothers nodded. They were triplets; all
had qualified with honours from the Assassins Foundation on Luxor Prime some twenty
years ago. With the changes happening in the former Dark Empire, as “discreet”
dehumanisers, their services were in demand from many of the crime families that ran the
Underground as the society of Crime Syndicates was called. This “hit” had been ordered by
someone for The Kinray Group and that was all they needed to know.

“I feel sorry for the poor beggar; but he had his fingers in too many pies to go unnoticed by
Him. It was only a matter of time. Did you sweep him Morden?” Mundey asked

“Yeah; and we’ll check out the spoils later back home. Don’t want to attract too much
attention” he replied. Marven was quiet; he nudged Mundey and pointed to a Café. The
three of them crossed the quiet street and went inside.

A little later; in the alleyway where they had left Jaden’s body in a slowly thickening
pool of its own blood and fluids, a form stepped out of the shadows. It looked down at the
crumpled remains. It counted fifteen stab wounds, twelve slashing cuts that had inflicted
only just enough damage as to cause bleeding. Oddly the body had a strange look of peace
upon its countenance. The form crouched down beside the pool of blood and recovered a
sample in a small vial. It rose up and pulled a small communicator from a coat pocket.

“Officer G17885 to dispatch. Detective Krank reporting a murder in the back alley of Gundy
Street, lower east side. Have forensics here and post a patrol. I don’t think I should be
involved as it happened in the vicinity of my domicile. Any suggestions would be most
welcome!” he said.

“Central dispatch to G17885; Command want you to stay put. Lomax and Dreck are coming
to assist. You OK Felix?”

“Yeah, just a bit of a shock and it is Detective Inspector Krank to you. Tell Lomax that the
Doc will need a liquids kit too. I have a sample I’m sending to the Lab by Courier Droid now”.
A small round flying object buzzed down and he put the vial inside its sample cavity.
“There’s no ID on the body, but I recognise the victim. The Chief might want a media block
putting on this one.” He took out his pocket recorder and began documenting the scene. He
stopped as if he’d realised something and took a closer look at the corpse. Putting on gloves
