OBJECTIVES:
To help students analyze determinate beams and frames subjected to rolling loads for sketching
influence lines.
To analyze indeterminate beams for plotting influence line diagram using Muller-Breslau principle.
To analyze various structural forms of arches for different support conditions.
To analyze suspension cables of various end conditions and space frames.
To help students understand the concept of plastic analysis and application of the same to
indeterminate beams and frames.
UNIT I INFLUENCE LINES FOR DETERMINATE BEAMS 9+3
Influence lines for reactions in statically determinate beams – Influence lines for shear force and bending
moment – Calculation of critical stress resultants due to concentrated and distributed moving loads -
absolute maximum bending moment - influence lines for member forces in pin jointed frames.
