Objectives:
⚫ To inculcate the importance of research methodology and Intellectual Property Rights.
⚫ To make the students aware of their rights for the protection of their invention done in their project work.
To get registration of patents in our country and foreign countries of invention, designs and thesis or theory

UNIT-I RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 9
Meaning of research problem, Sources of research problem, Criteria Characteristics of a good research problem, Errors
in selecting a research problem, Scope and objectives of research problem. Approaches of investigation of solutions
for research problem, data collection, analysis, interpretation, Necessary instrumentations.
UNIT-II REVIEW OF LITERATURE AND TECHNICAL WRITING 9
Effective literature studies approaches, analysis Plagiarism, Research ethics, Effective technical writing, how to write
report, Developing Research Proposal, Format of the proposal, a presentation and assessment by a review committee.
UNIT-III INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS 9
Nature of Intellectual Property: Patents, Designs, Trade and Copyright, copyright registration in India Process of
Patenting and Development: technological research, innovation, patenting, and development. International Scenario:
International cooperation on IPR. Procedure for grants of patents, Patenting under Patent Cooperation Treaty.
UNIT-IV PATENT RIGHTS AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN IPR 9
Patent Rights: Scope of Patent Rights. Licensing and transfer of technology. Patent information and databases.
Geographical Indications. New Developments in IPR: Administration of Patent System. New developments in IPR;
IPR of Biological Systems, Computer Software etc. Traditional knowledge Case Studies, IPR and IITs.
UNIT-V INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS AND GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS 9
Industrial designs and IC Layout design, Registrations of designs, conditions and procedures of industrial designs-
Cancellation of Registration, International convention of design- types and functions. Semiconductor Integrated
circuits and layout design Act- Geographical indications-potential benefits of Geographical Indications.

Course Outcomes:
On completion of the course, the students will be able to

Understanding that when IPR would take such important place in growth of individuals & nation.

Understand the importance of copyright and industrial designs.
