                       QWIMMING

With the freshman and sophomore swimmers of two years
m ago just beginning to realize their considerable potential, the
1967 version of the M.B. swimming team recently _ dubbed
"Hammerheads", ended a highly successful season with a 8-5
mark, a considerable improvement over the 4-1 I standard
I posted last year. The success is due to the development of
Tom Hough and Brad Barnes in the 200 freestyle, of Ned
Whitford and Jerry Bliss in the individual medley, of Bob
Parks and Paul Whidden in the sprints, Nick Spencer in the
dives, Gene Bonte and Ned Whitford in the butterfly, Sam
Atkins and Bruce Lynch in the backstroke and Bob Sondheim
and Jerry Bliss in the breaststroke. The medley and freestyle
relays enjoyed a succession of victories with the great depth
which helped form numerous winning combinations. Captain
and inspirational leader Greg Bragg continued his record
smashing performances in all freestyle races and the butter
fly. Undoubtedly the two finest meets were with St. Georges
and Cranston W est in which the meet was decided by the re
sults in the freestyle relays. M.B. came out on the short end
twice despite heroic record-breaking performances in both
meets. With several promising freshman and sophomore swim
mers learning the trade well, Jud Smith and W ard Parks
among them, the next few seasons should hold numerous
victories and maybe even one long over due against St.
     Georges.
