There were others. Speak to any alumnus of

eyes when he mentions David Lindsay “Daddy”
Lowson and his capers in the chemistry lab and

And finally, there was an English teacher at
Trinity about whom the following article ap
peared in 1931 : “The absolute nadir of humility
was reached a short while ago when our dignified
English teacher took a fearful cropper right in
the middle of Amsterdam Avenue . . . with
knuckles . . . skinned, shoulder dislocated and
knees of trousers gone, Mr. B---------got up, and
being somewhat annoyed, said, ‘Oh, Balder
