F or athletes, there’s more to a school
day than just the eight periods spent
sitting in class. The school day, for
many, does not begin at 8 a.m. and end at
3:15 p.m. For some, the day begins at 6 a.m.
and ends at 6 p.m. These dedicated athletes
are the Ralston High swim team.
Senior Nicky Naviaux said, “The team
had practice in the morning Monday, Wed
nesday and Friday at 6- 7:15 a.m. and every
day after school from 4-6 p.m.
This allotted time wasn’t all the time
swimmers spend preparing for meets. Said
Naviaux, “We lifted weights every Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, and we had mental
training on Tuesday and Thursday as a
team.”
The swim team isn’t the only team at
Ralston High to work hard—the soccer team
knows what the word “dedication” means
too. “We practice every day from 4-5:45
p.m.,” said senior member Jodi. “The hard
part is doing the lines and then the sit-ups,
50 sit-ups.”
Some may think that this sacrifice of time
may be too much, but for the athletes at
Ralston, it’s just all part of the athletic day.
