The word for the 1975-1976 Moses Brown Hockey Team is "exciting.”
Playing a formidable schedule of opponents, the squad compiled an impressive
10-5-1 season, tying a school record for the least number of losses. Indeed,
even the non-victorious ventures by the Quakers were exciting, for each was
determined by only a one-goal margin, with two contests decided in overtime.
The M.B. Blue-Line Brigade was characterized by depth and determination.
Despite the prominence of underclassmen on the team, the Quakers demon
strated balance and scoring ability in every position, with eight players tallying
double-figure point totals. Tending the goal for the Blue were Tony Romano
and Wayne Curtis.
Having abandoned the evening practice shift, the Quakers donned their
game jerseys for the first time for an afternoon encounter with Johnston. Fac
ing off in the friendly confines of Meehan Auditorium, the Blue skated to a 4-
2 victory. Still under the dome, the squad decided that once is not enough and
defeated Pingree 3-1, with two tallies by A. J. Fortier and one by Captain Rich
ard Sawyer.
Starting out the new year, the Quakers brought in the Old Lange Line of
the Alumni and beat them soundly, 7-4, with Tad Barrows contributing two
goals. In the next game, despite a five-goal performance by A. J. Fortier,
Moses Brown was tied by Seekonk 7-7.
Continuing their road trip, Joe and Company cruised to Newport to fight
the dragons of St. George’s. In a thrilling contest, the Blue fought fire with
fire and exploded with a five-goal second period to lead 7-6 going into the
locker room. Nevertheless, the final figures showed the Dragons on top, 8-7.
In the next contest at Portsmouth at Portsmouth Abbey, the M.B. Lords of the
Boards pinned the opposition, 4-1.
