1976 was an outstanding year for the squash team, as the Blue won eight of
nine matches. The team was comprised of Captain Hiram Rogers, undefeated
Ed Chu, Matt Wilner. Max Rosen, and Evan Granoff, with Mike Chazan,
Robert Abedon, Cal Groton, and David Keith.
In the first match of the year, the Quakers beat a strong Rhode Island
Country Club squad by 3-2. This was followed by victories over Portsmouth
Abbey and Tabor Academy by scores of 3-2 and 5-0.
In the next match, M B was challenged by an awesome Navy Prep team,
but, powered by Hiram Rogers, Ed Chu, and Evan Granoff, the squashmen
came out with a 3-2 victory. The Quakers’ march towards an undefeated season
came to an abrupt halt with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Portsmouth Abbey.
M B bounced back quickly, defeating Pomfret and Brown E League Team,
by scores of 4-1. The Quakers last two matches were also won by the identical
score of 5-0 over Tabor and Pomfret.
This year’s squash team was the most successful in M B history. Although
the team will miss Hiram Rogers, Ed Chu, and Matt Wilner, a promising
group of juniois and sophomores will provide Coach Timms with a strong
force next year.
