REAL HE»ROES

^ 4 ction! Lights flashed! The spotlights flashed upon the actor/actress on the stage
With the flip of a switch the light color changed. The stage erupted into a thing
JL JL of color and beauty.
Yet, how did the play really come about? The real heroes of the play were un
sung. They’re the people who never received any credit or exposure except in very
fine print on about the second to the last page of the program. These volunteers
gave many hours of work backstage. These volunteers weren't alone, though, a
backstage theater class also helped them.
Putting a play together took 1,000 hours per 10 students per teacher, as ex
pressed by backstage theater teacher James Wolfe, there was a lot of pressure
involved, mainly in keeping on schedule. Many of the jobs required a lot of
physical work such as building flats. Junior, Jim Brewer said he likes to work
and build sets because it gave him a feeling of satisfaction and that was
                   why he took the class.
There were also those great big little people who put the actors and
actresses into the limelight, the lights and sound crew, headed by Jack
                   Parkhurst, drama instructor.
These people were only a very little part of the whole picture.
There were a lot of others working on props, make-up, set design,
                   building and arranging sets.
“In theater you have to learn that it is a part of art and the cor
rect discipline and knowledge put to use with the hands on practice will
pay off in the world once you leave Ralston High School. In addition to
working the fellow students you will understand how to complete a task," said Wolfe
