Waking up
rain, two-hour practices before contests, arriving
for football games two hours before the game
starts to practice the halftime shows and even
watching sunrises together at a few 6:30 a.m.
practices . . . These are a few of the experiences
that the 127 marching band members shared.
During the 1984 marching season, the band
participated in five halftime shows, the Septem-
berfest Parade, parades at the State Fair and the
State Marching contest at Memorial Stadium in
Lincoln. The band received an “excellent” rating
at the state contest.
December 8, Robert Foster, director of bands
at Kansas University, honored the band by giving I
a clinic at the UNO Field House. The band
boosters paid for rent of the Field House as well
as paying for the clinic. The clinic was to ready
the band for the upcoming trip to Dallas, Texas
where the band performed in the Cotton Bowl
Parade on New Year’s Day.
“I felt that the upperclassmen in the band
showed leadership and made the younger
members in band feel they were an important
part of the band. In turn, the younger players in
our band, once they had a competition under their
belts, put forth an excellent effort,” commented
Allan Amandus, band director.
