ORIENT A TION WEEK
gives the first impression of college life
The strange newness of arriving on campus. . . the fear of
moving into a dorm . . . and the homesickness were
overcome at least in part for the freshmen by the orientation
activities during that first week (September 6-10) before
classes started. Getting to know each other and giving
testimonies on Wednesday night, playing such memorable
games as Shmoo and Aardvark on Thursday night, being able
to rejoice in song at the beach on Friday night, and a wild
bowling game or two on Saturday night left little time for
worry in spite of the never-ending placement tests taken
during the afternoons.
Registration, on September 1 1, was more or less dreaded by
everyone, but we were all relieved to find that Dr. Godwin
had made effective changes in that area. Almost everything
ran smoothly. There was only a slight hitch in the plans,
causing some students to have to wait just a little while outside
the business office . . .
