friend of mine - Thomas Leary. In 10th grade Thomas ran
for the position of class president, and received only two
votes, his own and mine, “It’s weird because everyone came
up to me after the election and said they voted for me,” says
Thomas, “What liars.”
A constant visitor of thrift shops and the Goodwill.
Thomas mocks those who spend $50 for Tommy Hilfigger
apparel. “I’ve worn these jeans every single day this year,”
declares Thomas, “and i don’t care ‘cause they’re comfort
able and I don’t have to spend money on new ones.”
Thomas’ favorite author is Hunter S. Thompson, and
he enjoys reading the long books of history - The Rise and
Fall of the Third Reich, and philosophy and government -
Rousseau, Voltaire, and Locke. When asked what he would
like to do with his life, Thomas replied, “my dream is to
move to the Dalles, Oregon with a mycology degree and live life as a subsistence farmer
growing organic food.” Godspeed to you, Thomas.
Nietzsche once said “the surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in
higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” History is full of
rebels that went against the grain to defy authority and create their own set of rules by which
to live. Their findings and set parameters of yesterday are the ways in which we live our
lives today. They are always one step ahead of the masses, and are very rarely understood;
but they also need the many to allow the few to exist.
As they leave the ponds of their
youths, remember both these two and the
other Un-PCs, for the ripples these kids have
created will soon be magnified to consuming
tidal waves of created brilliance
