The Ramblings
of Artist
To be an artist is to have a tantrum and get praised for its beauty. Art is intensly
personal but also communicative; susceptible to criticism but subjective in its defini
tion; beautiful or frightening, humorous or stark. Art is necessary for life and life is
necessary for art— life devoid of art ceases to exist, and art cannot thrive in a pure
vaccum clear of the imperfections and idiosyncracies of life. The imperfections are
what make art art.
Abstract and pretentious ramblings aside, art is fun. I’ve done art since I was a
small child and will continue to do art until I die. Through art, I can relax and be
productive at the same time. Productivity in art is an especially necessary quality for
those enrolled in the AP Studio class as I was this year. Drawing, painting, and sculpt
ing became more than simple pasttimes as life becomes more like art each day.
