Whips, chains, and ckiperman-Joe Lane. That’s what the
Mr. QW& competition was made of
On September 21, 1995, the time honored Mr. QI1S tradition was carried out in
the theater with rich pageantry. Yes, the 14 competing seniors were in top form on
that crisp autumn eve. The contestants brought tears of joy to the eyes of the
judges who included Papillion and Omaha Marian cheerleaders. The perceptive
cheerleaders judged the seniors on their wit, originality, and brawn, and there was
plenty of those three components to go around.
Several unique costumes gave the competition a very special edge. Joe Lane
charmed the judges with his superman costume, which he purchased from Nobbies.
Nate Kounkel did a little charming of his own when he appeared in a pimp costume.
On a similar note, Craig Fitzpatrick appeared clad only in a pair of shorts and a few
chains, accompanied by Senior Trisha Groth, who wore leather and carried a whip.
Ouch.
Each senior did a fine job attempting to win the hearts of the judges and audi
ence, but there could only be one winner. Joe Lane was shocked when the new
Mr. QHS was announced.
Jo e Lane- student by day and superhero by “Honestly, I was so surprised. I couldn’t believe it," Lane said. “1 felt like fainting.”
