Responsibility
Comes With
LEADERSHIP
hen the word proctor is mentioned, the
W word that most quickly comes to mind
is responsibility. Despite the extra
accountability, most consider it a
privilege to be chosen as a proctor. The
discipline and leadership experience
gained are invaluable. Proctor Travis Mitten says,
“ Dealing with others is essential to leadership, and I
believe this experience will help me to deal with
others as a pastor or youth pastor in the future.”
Proctors mentioned that a challenge that comes
with the job is to maintain positive relationships with
students. They want students to realize that demerits
are given as part of their job, not because they dislike
the students. Jacquie Hughes comments that she
enjoys the special friendship she has developed with
her proctor. “ She’s always there to listen when I
need to talk out my feelings.” Each proctor is
committed to making the college experience a
success.
Beth Webb, a proctor, manages her time
wisely by finding a way to accomplish two
goals at one time. Here, she is seen
talking to her boyfriend. Terry McClintock,
and tackling her computer homework at
the same time.
