Technological advance equates itself with progress only when it
is a change for the betterment of man. Today’s era of science too
often labels all change as progress, but destruction of the old and
its replacement by the steel-ribbed structures and the endless rib
bons of expressway is justified only as it aids man to reach his ul
timate. A university is dedicated to knowledge and surely there is
no greater knowledge today’s student can gain from his college
experience than to recognize progress as victory — not of scientif
ic advance, but a victory of man for mankind.
