HONORING THE HCHIEUERS

The centers on their teams and the center of much attention, John Ward and Karin Povish completed
careers which may never again occur for our basketball teams within a four-year span. The number two
and three all-time leading scorers in ftllentown College history, Povish and Ward excelled both on and off
                        the court.
Ward’s career marks typify the consistency he showed day in and day out. A four-year starter,
three-year co-captain, Ward finished his college days as the all-time male career scoring leader with 1,555
points, As a junior, J.W. became Allentown’s first male underclassman to top 1,006 points.
ft smart, aggressive player around the paint, Ward led the team in scoring and rebounding his freshman,
sophomore, and senior years, A crippling knee injury in his junior year only slowed down J.W.
temporarily, as he worked himself back into shape and carried his game to a higher level in leading the
                        Centaurs again as a senior.
Recognized immediately throughout campus as a leader, J.W.’s involvement in campus activities such as
Student government and the Merry Christmas program for retarded children rounded out Ward’s complete
                        contribution to Allentown College.
Karin Povish, another leader by example, made herself into a successful athlete through persistence and
hard work. Karin majored in Criminal Justice and was an active member of the Women’s Intramural
Committee for four years. Suddenly thrust into the spotlight in her senior year, Povish responded by
carrying the team to an KCAA Division III play-off berth and achieving a spot on the Kodak Mid-Atlantic
                        Region All-American team.
During her four years, Karin scored 1,564 points, ranking her number two on the all-time Allentown
College scoring list, and pulled down 8Z6 rebounds, making her second on that list as well. An
irrepressible force in the lane, Povish set career and single-season records for free throw attempts and free
                        throws made.
Povish’s work ethic raised the level of her teammates play up to her own high standards, during her
career, the Lady Centaurs won 90 to 1Z1 games — an average of almost Z3 wins per season.

J.W. puts up the free throw which made him the all-time leading male scorer. Karin is escorted hg her parents on Senior Appreciation Might
