To study or to socialize? Academics or amusement? Sometimes it's not
easy to make the choice to stay at one's desk when friends are going out for the
evening. Sometimes students think, "If I see one more biology term or if I have
one more paper to write, I'm going to give up." Some have these overwhelming
feelings and then they do give up. Such students are not the members of Alpha
Chi. Alpha Chi is a honor society based on excellence. The members of Alpha
Chi are dedicated and focused. They strive for excellence in academics and
Christlikeness and have a desire to help their fellow classmates. Alpha Chi is not
merely an honor to be inducted into, but it is also a recognition of willingness
to serve. "Alpha Chi is a national honor society which means that, yes, it is an
honor to be elected to the society, but more than that, the members are inducted
to promote honor among their fellow students," said Mrs. Catherine Anthony,
faculty sponsor for Alpha Chi. "The ceremony is symbolic of each member's
pledge to provide a service to others, and that is why Alpha Chi members give
their time to tutor students who need help and to live their commitment to
Christ at the same time."
Being focused through Christ is the answer. "I've learned that while
school may be easier for some than others, it has a lot more to do with relying
on God and staying focused," said new Alpha Chi member David Johnson.
Senior member Tom
Starnes prays for God's
blessings over the mem
bers of Alpha Chi and the
student body. The Alpha
Chi induction begins and
ends in prayer, a symbol of
its godly foundation.
