For God ,hath not given us r r
spirit of fear
Fear is an emotion we all face. As children, we fear the
monster in our closet; as adolescents, we fear rejection from
our peers; and as adults, we fear failure. Even though fears
change over time, they know no cultural, social, or gender
boundaries. Yet as Christians, God has com
manded us to live boldly, without fear. Paul
clearly states in his letter to Timothy that fear
should have no part in a Christian's life. Fear
ing something-an event, a person, an out-
come-is essentially saying we are not trusting
in God. Then we are like a ship’s captain who
looks to his own knowledge and power for
guidance, instead of the North Star. Fear and
worry cloud our vision, and we focus on the stressful situa
tions instead of letting God, our North Star, guide us.
Jeremiah writes, “For I know the thoughts that I think to
ward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of
evil, to give you an expected end.” We need to realize that
God is guiding and directing our course.
Consequently, when trials and hardships come our way,
we can be confident that the One who loves and died for us
is in control.
At 7:30 a.m., faculty, staff,
and students gather
around the flag pole to
pray for the Katrina hurri
cane victims. President
Bush declared Friday,
September 18, a National
Day of Prayer and Re
membrance.
