Farewell
wenty-one nuns appeared from
T the darkness as the scene of the
Nonnberg Abbey was created. The
lights rose as the busy nuns sounded
the ''Preludium''. After a change of
scenery, Maria, a playfully
irresponsible nun, whisked across the
stage in graceful motions singing the
title song from The Sound of Music.
Next, teen love was acted out by
Rolf (junior Kevin Gibbs) and Liesl
(senior Vicki Pitzell) as they sang
"Sixteen Going on Seventeen". One
of many crowd pleasers featured was
"So Long, Farewell" sung by the Von
Trapp Children as they marched off
to bed. "The song has always been a
perenniel favorite," commented
Dwain Price, music director.
Mother Abbess, (junior Barb
Polsley) brought tears to the eyes of
the audience. "She sings as strong
vocally as anyone in twelve years,"
said Price. "Her performance of
'Climb Ev'ry Mountain' was definitely
the musical highlight."
Maria left the convent and found
herself in love with the Captain
(senior Dave Holsteen). "The
Wedding Music" was very
impressively performed by the nuns,
novices and postulants.
Finally the family was forced to
leave their home to escape German
domination of Austria. Before “ They simply excited the audience with
escaping to Switzerland, the Von their vitality!" said Price. Maria (senior M i
chelle Johnson) teaches the children Lou
Trapp family sang "Eidelweiss" letting isa (freshman Beth Selinger), Friedrich (ju

Rose), Marta (Megan Parkhurst), and Gretl
(Kristen Jenkins), Ralston area grade-
schoolers, to sing "Doe, a Deer."
Maria notices how regimented the chil
