T U D Y . The word means the "methodical ac
quisition of skill or knowledge" Similarly, the
word student means "one who studies" The
conclusion may be drawn that a student is
"one who methodically acquires skill or
knowledge" Many parents eagerly bundle
their children off to an institution of higher
learning to acquire that knowledge. The ex
pectations of the parents often are vastly dif
ferent from those of the student. Parents
think students go to college to expand their
minds through intensive study; extracurricu
lar activities are optional. Some students,
however go to college to find freedom to try
many new activities, and for them studying is
optional.
Very quickly students discover that in or
der to stay in school (let alone be eligible to
participate in extracurricular events or receive
financial aid), studying is necessary. Some in
genuous students have done their best to
make learning quick, easy, and enjoyable.
Chandy Kime said, "If you walk around in
circles, the thoughts just seem to stick in your
brain, but pacing the floor can drive your
roommates up the wall"
"I like to lay on the floor and prop my legs up on
the bottom bunk. All the blood that flows to my head
helps me think better. Also, earplugs are a must. It
has to be absolutely quiet for me to concentrate" said
