Abandoned drill
rods pose a dangerous threat to
underground workers and assets in the
case of free-fall. The SafetySpear™ protects
personnel and equipment by plugging the drill
hole with an innovative, high-impact absorbing
plugging system.
The spear is verified by WorkSafe Victoria, and is
already used as a mandatory application by well-
known mining contractors Australia-wide and globally.
The spear also helps mines to avoid the knock-on
costs of deploying additional equipment to grout or
plate over drill holes when rods are lost, as the spear
is installed by the same drill which lost the rods in the
first place.
STOP FALLING The simple and standardised process of installation
delivers a proven and reliable outcome for the mine.
To install the SafetySpear™, a simple installation
WITH dolly is screwed onto the Longhole’s drifter and the
SafetySpear™ is placed on top of this dolly. Following
the installation instructions, the SafetySpear™ is
DRILL RODS THE pushed into the blast hole pointed end first by the
drifter approximately 1.5 metres into competent
rock strata.
SAFETYSPEAR TM Made from high impact but lightweight materials, the
89mm blast hole size weighs in at just 3.5kg, making
the SafetySpear™ suitable for operator handling
underground. The spear is designed and made in
Australia, and comes in an 89mm and 102mm size to fit
applicable drill holes.
