Deep, sometimes cryptic, structures
play a role Edge of Proterozoic outcrop
• Deep structures, such as basin margins, play a role in
tapping fluid reservoirs, focusing fluid flow through wide
damage zones
• Methodology for identifying deep seated structure:
• High upward continued geophysical worms are one
ingredient
• Breaks in worm gradients are indicative of more
cryptic structures which can have significant depth
extent
• Deep structure can be mapped using strike length
as a proxy (ie long faults tap deeper than short
faults)
• A fault map is derived from interpretation of
geophysics (magnetics/gravity) and integrated with
existing mapped faults where known. Strike length
images are created from this (eg Mt Isa).
