It pays for a geologist to have
a long memory and in the
case of Classic Minerals Ltd
(ASX: CLZ) managing director
Dean Goodwin it is set to pay
in ounces of gold.
Goodwin’s powers of recall have proved invaluable for Classic
since the company convinced him to share his knowledge of
the Forrestania greenstone belt in Western Australia more
than four years ago.
Projects: For Goodwin, it was an opportunity to reacquaint himself
Kat Gap gold project with a landscape he had covered extensively two decades
Forrestania gold project previously.
“I spent three-and-a-half years mapping this ground more than
Fraser Range nickel-copper project 20 years ago and actually mapped some 120km of strike,”
Goodwin explains. “Classic found out about my experience in
the district and So, I have applied that knowledge gained two
decades ago to getting the company to where it is now.”
Where Classic finds itself is on the edge of making the leap from
explorer to gold producer. While the company’s Forrestania
asset still demonstrates considerable exploration potential, it
has landed on the Kat Gap project – 170km south of Southern
Cross – as its standout prospect.
Originally taken to scoping study by Sons of Gwalia in 2003,
Kat Gap represents the ideal starter project.
