MEDIA- A GLIMPSE INTO THE PRESENT WORLD
Jackson Katz has rightly said that "Media plays a powerful role in establishing and perpetuating social
norms" as it influences and shapes the mindset of the people. Media refers to the tools of mass communica-
tion and consists of television, cinema, internet, radio, telephone and newspaper. Media helps the general pub-
lic to elicit information not only about the working of a country, its government but of the entire world. It
helps people to form their opinions about the prevalent issues going on in their surroundings. Media creates
awareness among people and acts as a guide for them to raise their voice against social evils present in the soci-
ety. The actions of the public are many-a-times based on the information given by the media. Every society re-
quires a fair and just media to function smoothy and democratically as it reflects the true image of the society.
In the contemporary times, media is losing its essence. A lot of questions have been arisen whether the mirror of the
modern society is reflecting the true image of the society or not. And the answers to these questions are uncertain.
Although media helps a society to grow and develop in many ways but with time it is losing its validity and reliabil-
ity. Often the reports provided by it contains a partial account, an account which is manipulative favouring the rich
and powerful. So, the viewers should think critically before believing in all the information disseminated by media.
