The Board of the Maryland State Golf Association has selected Worthington Manor
Golf Club in Urbana to host the 98th Maryland Open Championship in July 2019.
Worthington Manor becomes only the third public golf club in the state to host this
historic championship. The golf course has played host to many USGA qualifiers for the
U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, and the U.S. Senior Open.
The inaugural Dominion Charity Classic held at The Country
Club of Virginia’s James River Course in Richmond, VA, was
awarded with the PGA TOUR Champions Players Award. The
annual Players Award recognizes a golf course for providing
PGA TOUR Champions players an experience that goes above
and beyond. The Dominion Charity Classic, the second of three
events in the inaugural Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, produced
one of the year’s most exciting finishes, with Scott McCarron
defeating Tom Byrum in a playoff to earn his second victory of
the 2016 season. “It is a great honor to be voted by the PGA
TOUR Champions professionals to receive the Players Award,”
said Steve Schoenfeld, executive director of the Dominion
Charity Classic. “We are looking forward with great anticipation
to building on this success for the 2017 tournament.”
