The Creighton Farms Invitational in
September was the 5th annual, and
last year’s event alone raised well
over $700,000 in charitable donations
for the Nicklaus Children’s Health
Care Foundation and the Children’s
National Health System. Boston-based
company Southworth Development,
the owner and developer of Creighton
Farms, organized the event along with
the foundation. Local players were
teamed with numerous celebrities
and sports legends including the host
in the tournament. National Hockey
League stars of the past and present
were represented by the Washington
Capitals Rod Langway and Justin
Williams among others. Major League
Baseball had several players on hand
including Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers
and Cy Young winner Roger Clemens.
George “The Iceman” Gervin and Rick
Barry also brought their hall of fall credentials from the NBA to the course. The
event opened with a formal gala, a live and silent auction, and “Fireside Chat” with
Nicklaus emceed by sportscaster Jimmy Roberts. The day of golf brought beautiful
weather, lots of fun, and excellent play with the team led by Tommy “Two Gloves”
Gainey winning the event.
