anniversary in 2015. The Starr Pass, probably one of the more exciting golf courses
I have ever played, offers an outstanding set of par 3s throughout the 27 holes. You
must remember that about half of the holes require a carry over some type of desert
vegetation, so choose an appropriate tee based on having fun and enjoying the day.

Sewailo Golf Club, the pride and joy Sewailo
of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, was designed
by Native American, Notah Begay III,
a winner on the PGA tour and now a
commentator on the Golf Channel. The
course was added recently to the Casino
Del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference
Center. The 66 strategically placed
bunkers make you choose just how much
to challenge the fairways and water.
Distant mountains ring the perimeter
of the land adding more beauty to the
landscape. What started as land “flat as
glass” (according to a Pascua Yaqui Tribe
member) now ranks as one of the finest
new courses I have played.

Omni Tucson National Resort, a
complete resort, offers a variety of
rooms and suites, a luxury spa, fine
dining as well as casual fare, and two
Tucson National

championship golf courses. Their
considerable golf history includes sponsoring Jack Nicklaus as their first touring pro
plus hosting the Tucson Open more than 30 times. The Catalina Course’s parkland
style gives it a more traditional feel with tree lined fairways as opposed to the
Sonoran Course’s mainly desert landscape. Brent DeRaad, President and CEO of the
metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, is very enthusiastic about the
Champions tour event that debuted in 2015 at the Omni Tucson National Resort. He
says “The facility is world-class and is centrally located, making it very convenient
for spectators.” Danny adds “It’s a really good layout and very walkable. It is not
widely spread out and the terrain isn’t too undulating. It’s great for both players
and spectators.”
