nounced prior to, or following the invocation according to your discretion.
It is suggested that you participate in the service so far as requested by the family. If the fami-
ly has asked you to conduct the service, but not speak, then any remarks should be brief.
Final instructions and announcements should be given prior to the final musical number or
speaker. Some of the items you may want to announce:
Announcement of the pallbearers (this can also be done at the beginning of the service).
If travelling in cortege, you may wish to say: “The interment will be in the cemetery.
There will be no police escort. However, those wishing to go to the cemetery are invited to fol-
low the hearse. Please turn on your headlights and travel slowly at a safe distance behind the car
in front of you. Please obey all traffic signals and laws. The procession will travel slowly so that
you will be able to catch up in the event you become separated.”
At times a cortege is unnecessary or impractical. Under those situations you may wish to say:
“The interment will be in the cemetery. There will be no police escort or cortege to
the cemetery. Those wishing to go to the cemetery will meet at (Give time) at which
the graveside service will begin.”
At the conclusion of the service the funeral directors will enter and proceed to the front of
the chapel. At this time the congregation should be asked to rise and Pallbearers instructed to
come forward. The funeral directors will then help the family exit the chapel. After this the
congregation should excused. You may want to express again appreciation for those in atten-
dance and for their support.
