1. Excavation
The first step in any paver construction project is EXCAVATION. The depth of
excavation will depend on two factors:
? The type of soil in your area – Clay soil will require a deeper
excavation; sandy soil will require less.
? How your paver surface will be used – Heavy loads like driveways and
retaining walls require deeper excavation, patios and sidewalks require
less.
2. Filter
Once the excavation is finished it is critical to separate the subsoil from the base
material.
? The filter fabric should be strong enough to not tear under load.
? Should be non-woven to allow for drainage.
