How to support children’s
social and emotional
wellbeing

s things gradually begin to settle down into a new normal, we are beginning to realise that the pandemic related
restrictions have not only affected the academic standing of our children but have also negatively impacted
Atheir ability to manage their emotions, deal with conflicts, and maintain a sense of self-efficacy to grow through
life’s inevitable challenges. In other words, kids are increasingly dealing with issues of low emotional, psychological, and
social wellbeing.
Wellbeing is a broad concept, extending beyond the absence of physical illnesses, and encompassing a positive mental
and emotional state, that allows for a child to adopt an exploratory, open, and resilient mindset. Such a positive and
growth-oriented way of thinking provides the impetus for children to actualize their potential and flourish in life.
Fortunately, research in the field of positive psychology has indicated that mental, social, and emotional wellbeing can
be fostered through intentional activities. Let us look at some simple activities that we can incorporate in our daily
routines that help us achieve this goal.
