Desde finales de la década de los
años 90, República Dominicana
inició un proceso de promoción
exterior con el interés de captar in-
versión extranjera, lo cual fue com-
binado con legislaciones tendentes a
privatizar diversas empresas estata-
les. Por esta razón, a partir del año
2001 se produjeron grandes inver-
siones de capital foráneo en diversas
áreas de producción del país.
Las estadísticas oficiales del Banco
Central de República Dominicana
indican que en los últimos 20 años
el país recibió inversiones extranje-
ras por el orden de los US$26,179.4
millones, destacándose 10 grandes
sectores productivos entre los princi-
pales receptores.
El Comercio, Industria y agroindus-
tria, ocupan el primer puesto con
poco más del 20% del total de recur-
sos ingresados al país como inversión,
seguido de los sectores Minería, Tu-
rismo, Inmobiliario, Telecomunica-
ciones, Electricidad, Financiero, Zo-
nas Francas y Transporte.
