Tournament of Minds
This has been a new opportunity this year for our pupils to extend
their thinking in a lateral, ‘out of the box’ way. For the first time we
have entered 4 junior high teams into this year’s national
competition. TOM is an international programme designed to give
participants the opportunity to participate in creative activities
involving stimulating open-ended challenges, which demand
experimentation and reward divergent thinking in four main areas:
Language and Literacy; Esteam; Arts and Culture and Social
Sciences
Challenges are designed to develop critical, creative problem-
solving approaches and techniques and encourage the
development of the various 21st century skills and behaviours. On
Tournament Day, teams of seven students are required to present
their solutions to two challenges - the Long Term Challenge and the
Spontaneous Challenge. These challenges are designed to foster
the development of attitudes and skills that are valued by
employers and to promote lifelong learning. Mazeltov to the
following groundbreakers for having been willing to take on the
TOM Challenges this year.
