STATISTICAL INSTITUTE FOR ASIA AND THE
UNITED NATION STATISTICS DIVISION
PACIFIC (SIAP)
It is with great pleasure that I join many well wishers of the Department of
Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in extending heartfelt congratulations of the Statistical
Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) on the 60th anniversary.
DOSM with its six decades of experience remains to be one of the pillars of
strength of Malaysia’s remarkable achievement during the past decades through
its contribution to informed decision making process in the country. It was
undoubtedly a vital factor of success in achieving the development goals of
the country.
DOSM has earned trust and recognition not only within Malaysia but also
at international arena. It has made significant contribution to the statistical
development in the Asia and Pacific region through various collaborative
works with international organizations, including SIAP.
The Institute conducted a number of training programmes in collaboration with
DOSM and many government officials/statisticians at various levels of statistical
undertakings have benefited from these programmes. I am happy to say that
the great success of these training programmes was due to the valuable
contribution and immense support provided by DOSM. In addition, DOSM,
as a fully elected member of the Governing Council of SIAP, together with other
members plays an important role in guiding and providing invaluable advice
to the Institute in its statistical capacity building training programmes in the region.
I hope that our collaborative partnership will be further strengthened in the
future and DOSM will play a vital role as a country partner institute to enable
SIAP to expand its support and efficiently address the growing training needs of
developing countries in the region and beyond it.
I am happy to note that DOSM has transformed into an agency, which has
taken the full advantage of the innovation of technology to improve its services.
Yet, all the challenges cannot be overcome in isolation.
Globalization definitely requires an intensification of cooperation between
statistical agencies. In order to face many challenges ahead of all of us I sincerely
hope that all elected members of SIAP Governing Council will join me to cooperate
and assist the countries in the developing nations and countries in transition in
establishing and strengthening their statistical training capabilities.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and commend DOSM’s
significant contribution to the nation and the leading role playing in improving
statistical capabilities of the countries in the region.
I wish success for all your future endeavours towards prosperity.
Thank you.
