We would like to congratulate the Department of Statistics Malaysia on its 60th
anniversary of excellent national statistical service-a milestone not only for Malaysia
but also for the wider ASEAN Community.

Since the founding of ASEAN Heads of Statistical Offices Meeting (AHSOM) in
October 1997, Malaysia has always been a passionate and compassionate member

supporting many initiatives for the development and harmonisation of statistics in the
ASEAN region. DOS Malaysia has been unwavering in its commitment to broaden
and deepen statistical cooperation in the region towards the development and
sharing of more timely and comparable data across the ASEAN Member States. DOS
Malaysia has also been a strong advocate of promoting the highest standards in

statistical data collection and dissemination and improving capacities of national
statistical systems for more quality and relevant ASEAN statistics.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to DOS Malaysia
for its support to all ASEAN statistical initiatives and in particular to make special note
of and acknowledge its willingness to take on the leadership of the ASEAN Working
Group on Data Sharing, Analysis, Dissemination, and Communication, which is going
to be a vital mechanism in making ASEAN statistics more readily available, accessible,

and relevant.

As we face the challenges and prospects of ASEAN Community Building, we are

confident that DOS Malaysia will continue to propagate and share its renowned
expertise, learned experiences, and spirit of excellence and professionalism towards
realizing the shared vision and goals of a stronger and more unified ASEAN Statistical
Community.

We are one with DOS Malaysia in wishing for many more years of excellent statistical
service to the ASEAN Community.
