“Oh no… I don’t know anybody” screamed Diego immediately
after the sentence ended wondering what to do next.
It was now lunchtime and Diego was walking down the
school’s crowded hallway after the seventh period. He walked into
the lunch canteen and did not bother to join the food queue served
with robots. Diego had no time for that. He never had. He sits down
on an empty table, made sure no one was within a five meter radius
of him, reached into his backpack, took out his tablet and read his
advance Calculus notes quietly alone for a good 30 minutes until a
familiar figure approached him. It was Joseph, the boy he bumped
into earlier. He was smiling as usual, there was something about
his smile that Diego had never felt before, but perhaps that may
have been because he had never seen smiles in general. It moved
Diego slightly but just slightly, nothing more. Joseph sat down to
the opposite of Diego and waved his hand.
“Oh, hi” Diego said unenthusiastically “and bye, now get
lost, I need to review for the upcoming Quandrum Maths exams on
the ninth period”.
“Nah, let’s play electronic chess on this table right here,”
said Joseph who refused to leave his seat “The table actually has
a function to spawn electronic chess pieces that look and feel like
real ones my 250-year old great grandfathers and great
grandmothers used to play when they were younger or at least
that was what they told me last week, they really like me doing
these fun activities with them and stuff along with mom and dad.
They said it is how people uses to live thousands of years ago and
it was fun”.
