JASON DEGIORGIO Food & Beverage Director at The Westin Dragonara Resort
I was born and raised in a family where my father and grandfather were both chefs. During my
childhood they gave me the opportunity to work with them and encouraged me to keep the
tradition within the family. Today, 30years later, I must admit that they managed successfully.
My career started at 15years of age as a summer student which enticed me to continue my studies
at the Institute of Tourism Studies where I graduated at the age of 20. On my return from my work
experience abroad I had the opportunity to work at the best hotels in Malta, in various positions.
During these years I worked with various colleagues, managers and owners thanks to whom I
learned and progressed to my career aspirations. The Hospitality Industry was my first and only
love in my professional career and I cannot imagine myself working anywhere else if not in the
Hospitality Industry.
Today I am a Director of Food and Beverage in one of the most renewed hotels in Malta, a resort
that carries an international brand name.
ELIZABETH YOUNG Front Office Associate at the Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa
Since a very young age, my parents had always instilled a love for travel and languages, thus
enrolling to study at ITS came naturally. During my studies, studying Hospitality Management,
I have managed to make friends for life and have also been exposed to various hands-on
experiences, including a one-year international internship.
During my internship at an airport hotel, I mainly worked in front office but I also got the
opportunity to shadow many departments such as Housekeeping, Concierge, the executive lounge
and Human Resources. I decided to extend my year as I had made so many new friends and living
abroad was exciting and I had been accustomed to being super independent and doing things on
my own. When I returned to Malta and graduated, many doors were open with job offers opening
up at boutique hotels and luxurious hotels in Malta and also abroad. The best thing about working
in tourism is the wonderful travel opportunities that it offers. One can work anywhere in the
world, any hotel or restaurant as the certificates are accepted everywhere.
