                          This book has a defect that needs to be fi xed here: It makes almost no
                       mention of the people who make crime prevention in Singapore possible.
                       These are the volunteers who pound the streets alongside police offi cers, the
                       residents who patrol their own neighbourhoods, the individuals who donate
                       generously their time and money, and the public-spirited bystanders who
                       step up to stop a crime in progress. Just as 2011’s Making Singapore Safe was
                       dedicated to all of them, so is this book.
