Susan would like to thank police psychologists Carolyn Misir and Han
Yongni, whose insights into criminal offenders and research on crime
prevention psychology inspired her to believe this book was possible; the
great team at the NCPC Secretariat, especially Tan Pang Yong, Joanna Loke,
Aren Poh and Elissa Chong, who dug often and deep into the Council fi les
and their memory banks in search of nuggets for the book, let her harass
them when she should have been bugging others, and did great dogsbody
work, always in good cheer; Kittybond Koo and Kymberly Singham, who let
her press-gang them into service slogging through the Crime Watch posters
and scripts; and NCPC Chairman Tan Kian Hoon, fellow Council members
and Executive Director Jarrod Pereira for their faith that this book would get
done. Susan also thanks her family for tolerating her usual disappearing acts
because she had to write – they are whom this is for. Especially you, Cayla.
Majeed would like to thank Commissioner Hoong Wee Teck for his years
of support, and Director Manpower Teo Chun Ching and Director Public
Affairs Wilson Lim for their guidance. He is always grateful for the support
of CE Jerry See and SAC Loy Chye Meng. AC Tan Tin Wee has always
valued psychology in crime prevention and Majeed is grateful for that. Much
appreciation to Ms Han Yongni and Ms Carolyn Misir for their work on the
chapters. On the personal front, Majeed feels blessed to have the support of
his wife Tscheng Yee and children Tasneem and Raouf for being his source
of ideas, emotional support, and happiness.
