The Last Quest
By: Amanda Elizabeth
“Hahaha catch me if you can”.
My voice echoed throughout the field as I challenged Alex to catch me in a
game of tag.
“Thud.”
I fell on the soft green grass with Alex playfully hugging me from behind. He
had caught me and had pushed me to the grass, but placed his hand at the
back of my head before it could hit the ground, to protect my head from the
slight bump. I looked at him and smiled as the sunshine showed perfectly at
the patch of grass we were lying down on. Birds chirped while the sound of the
gentle breeze filled my ears. I looked up into the radiant baby blue sky that was
beautifully painted with soft clouds while I listened to Alex's deep honeyed
voice humming a tune right next to my ear. It was beautiful and was the only
voice i wanted to hear everyday as it gave me a calming sensation and felt that
we were the only ones in the whole planet. I turned to my side and suddenly
everything went black, Alex disappeared, the grass was not there, and the sky
was pitch black.
Opening my eyes, I found myself tucked in my bed with my dog, Angel by my
pillow , then I realised, it was all just a distant memory that turned into a
sweetbitter dream, full of happiness but pain at the same time. These
memories kept coming back to me ever since he was gone. I missed him so
much but I knew he was happier up there then suffering here on earth, even
though it meant that we were not in one universe anymore.
