Abstract
This science project is to learn how to make and test the efficiency of the insulation that is made from
hemp and corn cob that was obtained from Tak province, Thailand. The insulation were used the hemp
to corn cob ratio of 1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2, respectively. This research was studied and compared the
fire resistance of the thermal insulation that with and without the flame- retardant to the commercial
insulation. The result of the first experiment shows that, the insulation from hemp has the lowest density
and weight followed by the corn cob and H:C-1:2.In the moisture content test, the H:C-1:1 has lowest
percent followed by the H:C-2:1 and 1:2. Moreover, insulation with hemp also found to the highest in
both water absorption and tensile resistance. The insulation from corn cob has the lowest flammable
rate similar to the H:C-1:2 insulation. For the thermal resistance test, the H:C-2:1 has the best result that
followed by H:C-1:1 and 1:2. Besides, putting the flame-retardant in the insulation 10g and 20g can
stop the spread of fire. In the third experiment, the thermal insulation with hemp and corn cob can
prevent the thermal better than the commercial insulation but it has more weight.
