               Abstract

Presently Seyfert galaxies are categorized only by the width of their emission lines. However, most
scientists say that the reason for the differences observed when viewing emission lines are due to the
difference in angle when viewing these galaxies from earth. This research project sought to categorize
Seyfert galaxies using multiple categories. Spectroscopic observations of six Seyfert galaxies were
performed and the data was analyzed by “BeSpec” software. The equivalent width of the emission lines,
width of emission line on the spectrum data and absolute magnitude were calculated. Finally, the
coefficient of correlation between these parameters was determined. As a result, it was found that there
is a correlation between the equivalent width of the emission line and what parameter/s) on the spectrum
data. It was also shown that there are no correlations between emission line width on the spectrum data,
the absolute magnitude between the equivalent width of emission line and the absolute magnitude. In
conclusion, the project determined that the equivalent width of emission line can be used a tool to
               categorize Seifert galaxies.
