Project objective : To construct a dual lane carriageway while protecting wildlife in the vicinity
Location : JKR Road Route 8 from Kg. Relong to Kg. Sg Yu (Segment 5);
JKR Road Routes 8 and 9 from Kg. Sg Yu to Kg. Kubang Rusa (Section 3F)
- both at Gua Musang, Kelantan; and
Central Spine Road Package 3 from Merapoh to Kg. Kubang Rusa (Section 3E2)

Project background
• The works at Segment 5 and Section 3F involved the construction of eco-bridges to keep wildlife in the
vicinity safe from traffic during animal crossings. Minimum forest clearing activities were undertaken
in both areas to lessen the impact on the natural habitat and food resources of wildlife.
• The pilot project for the construction of an eco-bridge at Sg. Tanum (Segment 5) involved providing a
headwall clearance of 5 m at the river berm under the bridge deck for safe elephant passage.
• Section 3F saw the construction of a 980 m span eco-bridge, the longest in Southeast Asia.
• Section 3E2 is the longest section of the entire Package 3 with 14km stretching from Merapoh,
a tourist spot, to Kg. Kubang Rusa in Pahang.
