            Project highlights
            • In constructing the new carriageway, it passed through fringe virgin

jungle where at certain locations small streams could turn into fast
flowing floodwaters especially during the monsoon season. To protect
bridge construction works over the monsoon period, major shoring
and sheetpile cofferdams were put in place.

            • The constant high water level at Sg. Tanum (Segment 5) especially
during the monsoon season also prompted the innovative use of
sinking caisson walls to accommodate the bridge pile cap construction

works that were located below the riverbed level.

            • In late 2009, strong currents and flooding destroyed the temporary
steel bridge built across Sg. Tanum but we were able to restore this

immediately. Despite the interruption of the only access across Sg.
The “eco-bridge” at section 3F offers uninterrupted crossings for the wild animals.
Tanum during the earthworks stage, earthworks for Section 1 of the
project was completed on time due to the effective recovery plan we
                  had in place.

            • The construction of the Vehicular Box Culvert (“VBC”) at CH2000
necessitated a major traffic diversion that posed a safety hazard due
to speeding traffic at the previously straight road section. Due to the

exceptionally high traffic safety standards and features provided, no
major traffic accidents involving fatalities were recorded at Section 3F.

            • The overall construction works at Section 3F were completed six

months ahead of time following the introduction of the precast spine
beam and slab construction method for eco-bridge works in place of
                  the conventional cast-in-situ method.

            • Again, the Section 3E2 was completed and delivered ahead of time.
