Postoperative Care
■ Provide routine critical care postop nursing interventions with focus on
neurological assessment.
■ Control BP.
■ Consider corticosteroids.
■ Administer anticonvulsants.
■ Perform DVT and stress ulcer prophylaxis.
■ Avoid excessive suction with drainage devices.
■ Note a swallow evaluation may be indicated before starting oral fluids.
■ Avoid IV fluids with dextrose. Use hypertonic solutions.
